Understanding the NDIS Certification Process and key reformed requirements
With the new NDIS Reforms that have come into effect since 3 October 2024, there are now over 550000 Australian people that require NDIS support services. It is absolutely paramount that NDIS Providers achieve NDIS Certification so they can provide the best services possible.
Who is the NDIS Commission?
The NDIS Commission are an independent agency that have been established in order to improve the overall Quality and Safety of NDIS Supports and services. Some of their key functions consist of the following:
1.Deal with any complaints/disputes or reportable incidents that may involve neglect of an NDIS Participant
2.Regulation of NDIS Providers and ensuring implementation of the new NDIS Code of conducts and NDIS Practice standards
3.Provide ongoing and education to NDIS Service providers, workers, participants and the community with respect to the NDIS Commissions quality and safety rules
NDIS Providers need to ensure that they are formally registered with the NDIS to ensure they provide effective services to NDIS Participants.
Overview of Changes made to NDIS
Late in 2019, a decision was made by the Australian Government to formally undertake a review of the NDIS scheme. There were a number of key discoveries that resulted including the following:
1.NDIS Providers waiting far too long to receive official confirmation from the NDIS Commission regarding registration
2.NDIS Act too rigid
3.Partcipants were confused and lacked understanding in some of the key requirements
4.Lack of information and support from the NDIS Commission
This has now resulted in positive changes which have now been released to help support all stakeholders involved in the NDIS.
Overview of new NDIS Certification Pathway/Requirements
For any NDIS Providers, the very first step for them will be to obtain an Initial Scope of Audit document from the NDIS Commission. This will provide us with all the appropriate information regarding the provider and the services they deliver.
This will also provide us with the information regarding the audit type you require (Certification or Verification).
